Residential High Rise Fire Safety

This has been a recurring topic on this blog. Today's Wall Street Journal has wonderful, pithy article by Sarah Tilton on page D1 entitled "Tricks of the Trade". Read it!! I'll attempt to do a "fair use" excerpting of a 158 word article (that's a challenge!). Here goes

"…Twice a year…a fire drill to identify all the possible exits, ideally two from each room…sturdy shoes under their bed…keeps two fire extinguishers in her home: one in the kitchen and one in the laundry/utility room. She uses "ABC"-rated extinguishers…replaces the extinguishers every five years…before tossing them out…practice discharging one…smoke detectors, one in each bedroom and on every floor…changing the batteries twice a year."
